We have had a very busy week at Brunswick Park. Earlier this week, we welcomed PC Lee to some EYFS and KS1 classes where he spoke to children about stranger danger and personal safety. We look forward to welcoming him back soon to visit other classes.
On Tuesday, I had the honour of accompanying the KS2 School Councillors to the Houses of Parliament. The children had a tour of the Houses of Parliament and got to enter the House of Lords. They even saw the Speaker's Procession. Before each day's sitting, the Lord Speaker walks in procession from the official residence in the Palace to the Lords' chamber. The procession consists of a Doorkeeper, the Deputy Serjeant-at-Arms or Principal Doorkeeper bearing the Mace, and the Lord Speaker. The children met Dan Tomlinson, the MP for Chipping Barnet, and had the opportunity to ask him questions. They also took part in a workshop to deepen their knowledge and understanding about the Houses of Parliament and UK parliament. I was incredibly proud of all the children who attended; they were the epitome of a Brunswick Park role model. They demonstrated all our school values; their impeccable manners shone and were commented on by so many people throughout the day.
On Thursday, we had a visit from Barnet Football Club ahead of our school's match day experience on Saturday (please see emails sent out for details). The club shared information about the club's history in our borough and the role they have had to play in the community. First team players Idris Kanu and Adebola Oluw engaged with children and answered questions about life as a professional footballer. They were able to explain to our students some of the important qualities you need including determination, resilience and teamwork. Barnet FC are currently top of the National League and a few wins away from a return to the Football League. We hope you all can get behind our local team and support them for the rest of the season! The club has also run some amazing community projects throughout our school for the last couple of months, offering free football sessions and a trip to the club for our Year 4 students. This is all in addition to Saturday's match day experience with a number of our children selected to be player mascots on the day. There is also a huge campaign for the club to return to their original roots at Underhill Stadium, just 10 minutes away from us. Hopefully we can all get behind the Bees with their promotion push and help with the campaign to bring them back to our side of Barnet!
Year 4 wowed us at their flute and clarinet concert this morning. The progress 4C and 4M have made is phenomenal! They played very confidently and also sang too! Thank you Year 4 for your incredible performance.
Thank you to the PTA for organising today's Mother's Day Secret Room event.
I hope you have a brilliant weekend - see you on Monday!
Mrs Sem had the honour of leading the assembly on Monday for the upcoming Eid celebration, where children learnt about the significance of this joyous occasion for Muslims around the world. For Muslims, Eid is a time for friends and families to come together to celebrate the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, giving to charity, prayer and self-reflection. Enjoy the weekend for all those celebrating, Eid Mubarak!
Reading Corner
A lovely selection of books have been purchased, and delivered, to a number of classrooms.
These books will complement those available in the school library.
Happy reading Brunswick Park!
Just a polite reminder to keep checking for forgotten school books at home.
Library reminders have been issued this week. We are currently working on the wording of these letters.
We would like to stress that no one will be fined or banned from using the library.
Please encourage your child to find Miss Jordan if they cannot find any of the books on their form and she will correct our library computer system.
As always, we will endeavour to solve any library issues which are shared.
