To celebrate Red Nose Day for Comic Relief next Friday 20th March, the School Council have made two fantastic hampers for a Red Nose Raffle, one for KS1 & one for KS2.
Tickets can be bought next week when the councillors will come around to classes or they can be purchased on SchoolMoney under the school shop section.
Tickets are £1 each or 4 for £5. We are also asking for a voluntary donation of £1 per child to dress in red for the day to support this fantastic charity. Of course, we will hold a cake sale after school and kindly ask for as many donations as possible for this, as it is hugely popular. (Please remember we are a nut free school).
Parent Consultations
Parent Consultations will be taking place on the 24th and 25th March. If you have not booked a slot with your child's teacher please make sure you do so by Friday 20th March.
Year 4 Girls Football Tournament Report
The Year 4 girls had a fantastic morning taking part in a 7-a-side football tournament at Christ College. For many of the girls, this was their first time playing in a competitive football event, making the experience even more special.
Throughout the tournament, the team showed great determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm. There were plenty of strong tackles, skilful dribbles, and impressive saves as the girls worked hard in every match. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each game as they supported and encouraged one another.
A huge highlight of the morning came in the final match, where the girls produced a brilliant performance to secure a well-deserved win. Their effort, teamwork, and positive attitude made the victory even more rewarding.
Well done to all the players for representing the school so brilliantly and for making it such an enjoyable and successful tournament!
Year 4 Mixed Football Tournament Report
The Year 4 boys had a fantastic morning competing in a football tournament at Compton Powerleague. From the very beginning, their enthusiasm and competitive spirit were clear to see.
After narrowly losing their opening match, the team responded brilliantly. They quickly grew in confidence and began to develop into a strong, organised team with clear roles and tactics. From that point on, they went on an incredible winning run, not conceding another goal and finishing the group stage as well-deserved group winners.
In the knockout stages, the boys produced some of their best performances of the tournament. They secured convincing victories against SMSJ and Brooklands, showing excellent teamwork, determination, and skill.
The final was a closely fought match against Woodridge, with both teams playing some excellent football. Despite a strong performance, the boys were narrowly defeated 1–0. They should be incredibly proud of their effort and the way they supported each other throughout the competition.
Well done to everyone involved!
Our Next Oracy Challenge!
How to Eat a Creme Egg
To bring a little light-hearted fun to the end of term, our next oracy challenge will focus on giving clear instructions.
The title of the challenge is: How to Eat a Creme Egg!
Just like our previous joke challenge, you can prepare your ideas at home.
Your task is to think about how you would explain to someone step-by-step how to eat a crème egg.
When you share your ideas in class, remember to:
Give your instructions in the correct order
Use clear language
Use imperative (bossy) verbs (e.g. open, bite, scoop, peel)
Speak clearly so your audience understands
You can be as creative, imaginative and inventive as you like! Maybe you have a special technique or a funny way to eat your creme egg.
During the week beginning Monday 23rd March 2026, you will have time in class to share your instructions with your classmates.
There will be an Easter-themed prize for one child in each class for the most inventive and creative instructions!
We can’t wait to hear your brilliant ideas!
Get your teeth into this challenge!
Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
We had a great time on Tuesday and Wednesday re-enacting the classic story of ‘Pinocchio’ through dance and drama delivered by the organisation ‘West End in School’.
Thank you to the PTA who funded this workshop for the children, which made this experience happen.
Below are a few quotes about the experience from some of the classes:
Nursery = It was good. The children did the actions. There were donkeys and a shark. The children were pretending to be Pinocchio.
RG = I liked it when we made Pinocchio’s nose. I liked performing to the school at the end.
1C = We all stood up and did a part of the story. Every class did different actions. We made cat faces.
2R = In the workshop we found out about the story Pinocchio. We loved it because the dance moves were funny, especially when Pinocchio was cheeky to Jiminy Cricket.
3JS = It was great fun! It was an encouraging opportunity because it supported our confidence to act in front of the school. It helped us overcome our stage fright. Everyone got to take part.
4C = It was very good to learn some choreography from a real actor. It was very interesting and we performed in front of other classes. An experience to be repeated!
5H = A great opportunity to learn some acting and dance skills. We also developed our facial expressions. The final performance allowed us to see how the story evolved.
6F = The experience was interesting. We put the performance together in a short amount of time with little resources. We included some sign language and everyone was encouraged to participate. We are glad we got to enjoy this experience.
Reading Corner
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Book Fair this week.
Congratulations to the winners of our book fair competition.
I hope you all enjoyed spending your free £5 purchase.
Congratulations to all our runners-up, who received a reading gift bag.
Here are a few quotes from the entries:
Reading is helpful for learning your spellings and is good for your well-being.
Reading exercises the brain like physical exercise strengthens the body.
Reading is important because it helps my knowledge grow and it is part of my well-being.
Books are important because they take us on adventures and help us explore new ideas.
Books can be our friends, helping us learn and have fun while discovering amazing stories and worlds.
Reading can take you to other worlds or teach you new facts. Some books make me go ‘Oh, I did not know that,’ whilst others make me go ‘Wow, that's amazing!’
Every book you read is a new adventure, like a wizard from Harry Potter or the golden ticket winner in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Reading is amazing! When you close the book, the fantastic story stays in you.
A book teaches you new words. Reading helps you relax and calm down.
Your mind gets bigger and bigger when you read. It can help you ask big questions. Reading is the best!
When I read Rainbow Magic, I feel like a fairy. When I read Harry Potter, I feel like magic is zooming around me, but every time I close the book the imagination stays with me.
Reading helps with knowledge and growth.
Reading provides an experience for the reader, making you want to get into the scene.
Reading requires attention, improving your ability to focus by training the mind to stay on task.
I can imagine what the characters look like and be transported to a different worlds.
Reading Ambassador Book Recommendation
The best thing about reading is that it helps widen your vocabulary span and expands your imagination.
My favourite book at the moment is When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr.
I love it because this book gave me an understanding of what it would have been like living during the Second World War without the text and illustrations being too overwhelming. It was written in a child sensitive way.
I think you will enjoy this book because it’s a clever way of merging history and fiction, whilst still being interesting at the same time. I think children ages nine and above would enjoy this book.
My favourite author at present is JK Rowling.
I would like to read ‘The Hobbit’ by J.R.R Tolkien next.

NOTICE BOARD
APB Wingate- Years 2 - 5
We are hosting a local youth football event, the APB Friends Cup – Spring Edition, on Saturday 11th April, and we would love your support in sharing it with your pupils in Year 2 to Year 5.
The Friends Cup is designed to give children the opportunity to play football with their school friends, family members, neighbours, or friends from other teams in a fun and friendly tournament environment. Many of our players currently play for APB teams, so this event is intentionally a little different, encouraging children to form new teams outside of their usual club teammates.
To keep things fair and encourage mixed teams:
- Each squad can have a maximum of 3 players from the same current team
- Teams can be made up of school friends, relatives, neighbours, or players from different clubs
Parents will take on the role of team managers, helping organise their teams and bringing plenty of encouragement from the sidelines.
