This week, we celebrated Book Week and had a blast!
Our week was full of excitement, reading-related activities and super stories!
Adults across the school thoroughly enjoyed reading some of their favourite books to other classes. I loved reading to everyone with Miss Jordan in Monday's assemblies, and then to Nursery, 2R and 4M! Classes took part in incredible drama workshops with Miss Jordan where stories were brought to life. Some classes have their workshops to look forward to next week. Children had lots of fun taking part in a book-themed scavenger hunt in the sunshine too. A massive thank you to Miss Jordan for planning a fantastic Book Week for everyone at Brunswick Park.
We look forward to seeing you at next week's parent consultations (Year 1-Year 6) on Monday 10th and Thursday 13th March.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Parent Consultation Monday 10th March
We are delighted to announce that we will be opening the art room on Monday 10th March from 3.30pm to showcase some of the amazing artwork and projects that have been created so far this academic year. This is the first time we have opened the art room as part of parent consultations. We hope that you can pop in!
1A had a lovely day at Lee Valley Animal park. They fed the goats and meerkats, and went on a wallaby walk. The children had fun learning about the different animals and enjoyed a picnic in the sunshine.
Year 3 took part in an exciting Anglo-Saxon workshop. The children handled artefacts, dressed up and lined up in a human timeline. They also made clay pots with Anglo-Saxon designs on them. Thank you to the PTA for funding this event.
Year 6 had a brilliant time visiting East Barnet Secondary School to watch their production of Shrek! They then took part in a creative writing workshop and had the opportunity to meet the cast. They were delighted to see some of our past Brunswick Park pupils performing on stage and experience secondary school life.
Year 4 football stars
Over the last few weeks our year 4 students have shown off their skills, teamwork and determination in the boys and girls year 4 football tournaments. Both teams did a fantastic job flying through the group stages before both being cruelly knocked on on penalties in the Quarter Finals.
Despite the disappointment of the penalty shootouts we were so proud of our teams and the ways they supported each other throughout. We can’t wait for more sporting experiences with this group in the future.
Online Safety session (for parents/carers)
It is important that parents/carers have an awareness of their child's online activity in order to protect and keep their children safe online and know how they can best support their children.
We invite you to attend a virtual session led by Education Child Protection on the topic of 'Online Safety for Parents.' The virtual session will take place on 27th March (7pm - 8pm).
Further information will be sent to you soon about how you can sign up.
Parking
May we ask parents/carers to ensure that they are parking legally and respectfully. Every week, we are contacted by local residents informing us that some members of our Brunswick Park school community are parking where they should not be, especially on the service road and Nurserymans Road. Cars must not park on the roundabout, block entrances or park on double yellow lines/zigzag lines. It is dangerous to you and others, especially the children.
We ask parents/carers to think about the bigger picture of what would happen in an emergency.
Reading Corner
We have had a great week celebrating reading at Brunswick Park.
The week started with Miss Jordan and Miss Wheeler acting out the story ‘Wolves in the Walls’.
Many laughs were had whilst listening to this humorous story.
We’ve had daily quizzes, reading book swaps, a character scavenger hunt and reading buddies, where everyone went to read with another pupil in the school.
Miss Jordan has led a number of workshops on ‘Macbeth’ and next week she will continue to deliver workshops with our younger pupils in Nursery, Reception and KS1.
Reading Ambassador Book Recommendation
The best thing about reading is the fact that is fun.
It transports you to the world of the book.
I love so many books at the moment: Percy Jackson, The Amari Series and The Skandar Series.
My ultimate favourite is Harry Potter.
It is fast-paced with lots of magic, adventure and mystery.
In the book my favourite characters are Fred and George Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood.
I think you will enjoy the Harry Potter books because they are exciting, have magical creatures and you can learn many spells – EXPELLIARMUS!
My favourite authors at present are J.K Rowling, Rick Riordan, A.F. Steadmen, Aisling Fowler and Christopher Palini.
I would like to read Eragon by Christopher Palioni next.
Just a reminder that the book fair arrives on Monday 10th March and all competition entries need to be with Miss Jordan on this day.
The book fair ends on Thursday 13th March. It will take place from 3.15pm under the shelter in the main playground.
You can pay by cash or card on the day and there are books suitable for children from Nursery to Year 6.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Comic Relief - Back to the Eighties - 21st March 2025
To celebrate where it all started Brunswick Park School Council has decided to throw an 80’s themed party to acknowledge 40 years of Comic Relief. This wonderful charity first started back in 1985 so we are going to time-warp back there and have loads of fun. Bring out your neon colours, strut your stuff in leg warmers, shimmy in your shoulder pads, double your denim and go big with your hair. The hall will be transformed into an 80’s disco for both key stages to enjoy a party each on the afternoon of 21st March. Please come to school in 80’s clothes and your red noses for the day ready to party in the afternoon. There is a suggested donation of £1 per child (all of which will go to Comic Relief). Please see the SchoolMoney 'Shop' for this payment.
We will also be holding a cake sale after school again all proceeds going to Comic Relief. We need as many donations for this as possible (please remember we are a nut free school). Could all donations be either taken into class, where the school councillors will collect them, or taken to the front office.
Many thanks for supporting this wonderful charity and we hope all the children have a wonderful time going retro.
