Parent Newsletter number 2 12.09.25
What a wonderful week we have had. Meet the Teachers sessions for Years 2, 3, 5 and 6 have taken place with Years 1 and 4 taking place next week.
This week we have welcomed our new reception classes. The children have all settled in amazingly well and we welcome the children and their families to the Brunswick Park family.
The new nursery children have also been attending their stay and play sessions.
We hope that you continue to read the newsletters for all the information you need regarding school events. Please keep an eye on the Dates for the Diary.
Early Morning Interventions
Teachers will be sending invites for early morning interventions next week, which will be beginning week commencing 22nd September. Interventions will start at 8.30am (8.15am for Year 6). Gates will open at 8.30 and will be closed promptly at 8.35am.
Safeguarding Reminder
If you are unable to collect your child and have arranged for someone else to pick them up, please inform the school office beforehand. For your child’s safety, class teachers have been instructed not to release children unless the office has received your notification.
Thank you for helping us keep all our pupils safe and accounted for.
Thank You for Helping to Brighten Up Brunswick!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped make our Brightening Up Brunswick project such a success!
Firstly, a special thank you to Vicky from the PTA and Marlborough Highways for providing the fantastic new playground floor markings – the children have absolutely loved playing on them and they’ve added a wonderful burst of colour to our outdoor space.
We’re also incredibly grateful to Barnet’s Guilds Art Committee and the talented volunteer artists who designed and painted the stunning Brunswick Tree of Life mural, now proudly displayed on the front of the Key Stage 1 building. The children have been so inspired by it.
It’s sparked lots of creativity and imaginative work of their own! Please feel free to take a look at their website if you have a passion for art and would like to become a member.

Lastly, a big thank you goes to the amazing staff who gave up time during the holidays to help paint the Reception decking and freshen up other areas of the school. Your hard work has really made a difference and helped create an even more welcoming and cheerful environment for everyone.
The Brightening Up Brunswick project will be ongoing, so if you’re able to help out, donate materials, or even create playground equipment, please feel free to get in touch with us – we’d love to hear from you!

Year 3 Stone Age
Last week Year 3 travelled back in time to meet a stone age lady, who demonstrated how to create a cave painting.
Everyone then had a go at creating their own using natural shades and an assortment of berries.
Year 3 Geobus Virtual Workshop
This week Year 3 enjoyed sharing our knowledge in science with Amy from UCL during our Geobus virtual workshop.
Pupils showcased their knowledge on fossils and how they are formed.
We are looking forward to another session with Amy next week where we will learn about the three rock types - sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.
Staff Entrance
Please can we once again remind parents NOT to use the staff entrance.
This entrance is for staff only. Parents will not be permitted entry. This includes leaving the school. This is safety hazard. There are constant delivery vehicles and it is dangerous for your children to be in this area.
If we see parents using this entrance we will contact you to discuss the safety of your child/ren.
Scooters
Children must not use their scooters or bikes when on the school site as accidents can happen. Please support us with this to keep everyone safe. If your child is attending afterschool club and rides a scooter/bike to school, please leave scooters/bikes parked at the front of the school in the bike area rather than in the playground - thank you.
School Council
On Monday 29th September, School Council elections will be taking place across the school for children in Year 1 - Year 6.
Teachers will speak to the children about the Brunswick Park School Council and the election process. If your child would like to run for School Council, please spend some time talking to them about why they would make a great school councillor so they are ready to share their ideas with their classmates.
READING WEEK
Reading Aloud is a Super Power!
Did you know? It's really beneficial to read aloud to your child, even when they are good at reading on their own?! It helps to improve literacy, vocabulary, a love of reading and strengthens the parent-child bond.
Top tip: Create a regular routine for reading aloud time. It doesn't need to be bedtime. Limit distractions. Start with a short amount of time and keep it fun. Make sure the book, comic, magazine or newspaper you have chosen to share is really interesting to your child (and you!)
Check out our reading recommendations which can be found on our school websites under curriculum/curriculum subjects/English: Reading. You will also find question prompts for KS1 and KS2, which you may find useful.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the Barnet Book Detectives summer reading challenge!
Please do come and find me and let me know who had been taking the books!

ORACY WEEK
Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
In today’s world, the ability to communicate effectively is more crucial than ever. Whether we are tackling complex issues, debating ideas, or simply understanding the news, how we speak and listen shapes our ability to engage with the world around us.
That’s where oracy - the skill of speaking and listening effectively - comes into play.
Oracy is about developing the ability to express ideas, listen actively, and engage in thoughtful, respectful dialogue.
"What if" games can develop these skills. “What if” games are open-ended scenarios designed to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional expression. These questions can be imaginative, like "What if you had superpowers?" or real-life safety questions, such as "What if you got lost at in the supermarket?". The goal is not about right or wrong answers, but about empowering children to generate their own solutions and understand their feelings in a safe environment.
Why not try the following at home . . .
What if . . . Jack’s Mum climbed the beanstalk?
What if . . . Rapunzel had short hair?
What if . . . the Ugly Duckling turned out to be a turkey?
