Parent Newsletter number 17 24.01.2025
This week, I had the pleasure of attending Forest School! We had a brilliant time making bird feeders, bird watching and listening to their calls. We spotted a robin that came to join our activities and also saw a parakeet fly over our heads.
Congratulations to last half term's Year 6 Mini Experts who ran Mini Expert Clubs for some children across the school including Lego Club, Arty Party!, Golf Club and Computing Club. I was blown away by their dedication and enthusiasm - well done and thank you to the mini experts for being excellent role models for the younger children who attended. This week, our next group of Year 6 Mini Experts started their clubs and I know they are excited for the next few weeks.
Nursery
We have been learning about traditional tales. This week, we have been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have taken part in lots of role play, spent time talking about the characters and their thoughts and feelings, experienced porridge sensory play and sequenced the story.
Year 3
Our budding volcanologists in Year 3 had a brilliant time at the Natural History Museum. They enjoyed exploring the ‘Volcano and Earthquake’ exhibit, along with other exhibits across the museum including the discoveries of Mary Anning - a Palaeontologist, who we discussed in our science project on ‘Rocks’. All the children participated in our workshop and once again shared their fabulous retrieval of taught facts and demonstrated excellent manners. They were fabulous ambassadors for Brunswick Park. Thank you to all parents who attended and helped to make this educational trip possible.
Reading Corner
Twelve pupils from across Year 5 and Year 6 are meeting this term to help judge the ultimate winner of this year’s Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.
Each week our panel explores one of the books on the shortlist and prepare to discuss their thoughts. Our panel carefully consider the look and feel of the book, its interest and inspiration factor and the ease of reading.
We had a very in-depth discussion this week and I am already looking forward to hearing their views next week.
Here are this month’s recommendations from BooksforTopics.
Detailed book reviews are on their website.

There are a couple of changes to the dates for the remaining Dr Bikes up until the end of March, which are highlighted in the table below.
The Dr Bike sessions are run by qualified bicycle mechanics. Members of the public can take along their bicycles to have a free, full safety check, which includes the condition of tyres, rims, gears, brake function and tyre pressure and adjustments can be made if required, all for free. Both adult and child bicycles can have the free safety check and adjustments made if necessary.
