News from the Park

Parent Newsletter 16 12.01.24

Welcome back!

It has been wonderful to see so many of you this week at morning drop-off or home time. Our Brunswick Park children have settled into the new term with enthusiasm and a real zest for learning. Classrooms are buzzing as children begin new and exciting projects.

In assemblies this week, we have discussed the beginning of the new year and considered our goals for the term ahead. Throughout the half term, we will explore our school value: determination. Determination is the quality that you show when you have decided to do something and you will not let anything stop you. We will continue to enjoy learning about determination in upcoming assemblies and PSHE sessions. Please discuss this value with your child and encourage them to think about how they can be determined to achieve their goals, and how they do and can show determination in their lives.

Brunswick Park PTA

The PTA will be holding a pre-loved uniforms event on Friday 26th January. This will be held under the shelter next to the studio, after school. Parents can select uniforms for an optional small donation to the PTA or for free.

Parents can donate any unwanted uniform they currently have on Friday 19th January (under the shelter or by the front office.)

Please donate clean, unwanted uniform in a bag.

Cook for Books!

We are very lucky in our school that we have a well-stocked library full of exciting books.  However, we know how important it is that children have access to books in their classroom that they love.  To enable this, each year group is going to be hosting a cake sale to raise money to buy books that they will choose for their classrooms.  They will be able to vote as a class on what to spend their money on to make sure they get the books they love.

All the cake sales will take place on a Friday afternoon after school under the shelter.  Cakes and biscuits can be dropped off at the classroom at the beginning of the day. Please remember that we are a NUT FREE school.

The dates of the sales are as follows:

19/1   Year 5

9/2     Year 4

23/2   Year 3

8/3     Year 2

22/3   Year 1

19/4   Reception

If parents would like to help at their child’s year group sale, please let the class teacher know - they would very much appreciate your help as I am sure these cake sales will be very popular!

Cold Weather

The weather has become very cold so it is important that your child wraps up warm for school and wears their coat every day. Please label all clothing (including hats, gloves and scarves) so that any lost items can be returned easily.

Dogs

Please may we remind you that dogs are not permitted in the school, nor should they be tied up to any fencing/railings inside or outside the grounds.

Roadworks

We have been notified that on 19th January 2024 between the hours of 9:30am and 2:30pm, a section of Osidge Lane will be closed whilst essential work is carried out.

BEAT Music Lessons

If your child has music lessons via BEAT, please ensure that you contact their music teacher if your child will be absent from school for any reason. This includes appointments, illness and school trips. The music teachers are sent the Newsletter and so they do have access to the school diary dates.

Census Day Menu

On Thursday 18th January the kitchen will be supplying a special menu to coincide with Census Day.

Free Dr Bike Service

Due to the success of the Dr Bikes in December in Barnet’s car parks, particularly among parents/carers and children, there has been demand to continue these into the New Year.  The free Dr Bike sessions will be run by qualified bicycle mechanics. Members of the public can take along their bicycles to have a free, full safety check, which includes the condition of tyres, rims, gears, brake function and tyre pressure and adjustments can be made if required, all for free. Both adult and child bicycles can have the free safety check.

Please see the dates and locations of the next sessions.
