News from the Park

Parent Newsletter number 10 15.11.24

Today we supported Children in Need! We had a wonderful time raising money and taking part in SPOTacular Bear Pong! It has been a fantastically fun day raising lots of money for this very important charity.

Thank you to our brilliant Brunswick Park School Council and Miss Heath for organising another great event, and to everyone who supported Children in Need 2024!

I wish you a brilliant weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Anti Bullying Week and Odd Sock Day

On Tuesday, it was Odd Socks Day - it was wonderful to see so many odd socks! We wore our favourite odd socks to symbolise that we are all different and that we should be ourselves, accepting of one another and celebrate difference.

Throughout the week, children have been taking part in many activities as part of Anti-Bullying Week 2024. To introduce the week, the children took part in an assembly led by Miss Jordan and Miss Heath, organised by the Anti-bullying Alliance. The assembly provided key messages about speaking out against bullying and choosing respect.

Healthy lunches and snacks

If your child has a packed lunch, it is important that they are provided with healthy and nutritious food. Please remember we are a nut free school so nuts or products containing them must not be sent into school.

Whether squeezing it in before the school run in the morning or before bed on busy midweek evenings, preparing your child's lunchbox can seem like just another thing on the list. School meals are a great choice, but if you do make a packed lunch for your child then click on the link below for a range of quick, easy, healthier lunchbox ideas and tips:

https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes/.

If your child is in KS2 we encourage you to send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy at morning break time - our days are very busy and children need to stay full of energy! Fruit and vegetables snacks are provided for children in EYFS and KS1.

Snacks must be either fruit or vegetables only. Please remember that we are a nut free school. Please do not send in any nuts or products containing them. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Reminder: Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day - 17th December 2024

We will be serving Christmas Dinner on Tuesday 17th December. This will also be Christmas Jumper Day. Please see the menus below - one standard menu and a special diet menu. As usual there will be both halal and non halal turkey. If your child usually has a packed lunch but would like a Christmas dinner please let the office know by emailing office@brunswickpark.barnetmail.net before Friday 29th November. Due to ordering we cannot accept late requests after this date.

Reading Week

Congratulations to everyone who took part in our competition.

I hope you enjoyed being creative and our five winners enjoy purchasing their new book.

All entries are currently being celebrated in the library.

Please see below left for our winner and below right for our runners-up.

Our Book Fair starts on Monday 18th November and runs through to Thursday 21st November.

It will take place from 3.15pm under the shelter in the main playground.

This is a great opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping whilst also supporting your school.

Every book that is purchased from the fair earns us credit to exchange for books for our library.

You can pay by cash or card on the day and there are books suitable for children from Nursery to Year 6.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

When should I keep my child home from school?

Please click the link below which provides guidance from the NHS for childhood illness.

Please remember that with vomiting and diarrhoea children should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days (48 hours).

Year 2 are going to Antarctica!

The Royal Research Ship Sir David Attenborough set sail for Antarctica on Sunday 13th October, and 2F and 2R are part of this incredible journey!

We’ve had the chance to add our class names to a time capsule that will travel all the way to Rothera Research Station. Plus, we’ll receive weekly updates from the voyage, packed with amazing stories, photos and videos!

Join us as we follow the journey and meet the crew travelling over 8,000 nautical miles to a frozen world. Together, we’ll see icebergs, penguins, and whales and meet scientists and teams working in and around Antarctica!

Follow along on their journey here:

Secret Room Donation

There will be a non school uniform day on Friday 22nd November.

Please donate gifts for adults that parents would like to receive from their children. Please donate items you have in your home that would make a great gift or feel free to buy something too.

The Secret Room is a lovely idea for children to go inside, choose a gift for their adult, wrap it and write a little Christmas message.

This is a great way for children to do something thoughtful for their adults in this festive season.

International Buffet

We are excited to host an INTERNATIONAL BUFFET at our upcoming Christmas Fair after school on Friday 6th December and would love your help!

We are seeking contributions of delicious dishes that celebrate your family's heritage or favourite holiday traditions. Whether it's a savoury snack or a classic dish, your contribution will make our event a culinary delight for all. Dishes can be homemade or shop bought but MUST be nut free

Please let us know if you can contribute and what dish you’d like to bring by replying to your class rep or email brunswickparkpta@gmail.com

Chinese New Year workshop

The PTA are planning a workshop for the school.

We've got a very exciting Chinese Dragon Dance workshop planned for the whole school to celebrate Chinese New Year!
