The sun has been shining brightly at Brunswick Park this week.
Today, we had a fun-filled day, with each class completing the Fun Run - it was lovely to see many of you supporting! Well done to everyone who got involved, and a huge congratulations for the money you have raised for our school and the North London Hospice.
A big thank you to Mr Reisman and the wonderful PE team for organising a brilliant event, and to Brunswick Park staff for all their support.
This week, 4C ventured into the woods. They kicked things off with a fun and challenging team problem-solving activity, where they had to cross the woodland floor without touching it, using just three small mats between them! The class also enjoyed building their own Viking longboats and exploring the science of vibrations by hammering nails into wood and experimenting with elastic bands. Throughout the session, 4C showed great enthusiasm and exemplary behaviour — I look forward to taking the rest of 4C out next week.
In Science, Year 2 have been learning all about microhabitats. We discovered that just one teaspoon of soil can contain billions of microorganisms - tiny living things like bacteria - that work together to create a perfect balance for animals and plants to live and grow, including those we rely on as humans! Inspired by photographer Tim Cockerill’s images, 2F drew their own interpretations of these microscopic organisms. They also got hands-on by creating their own microhabitats, building bug hotels and designing water stations to help support local insect life. Well done 2F!
Bug Hotel Builders! 🐛🕷️
Over the past two weeks, Nursery have been busy exploring the fascinating world of Minibeasts, and what better way to welcome their new creepy crawly friends than by building their very own Bug Hotel!
They were incredibly lucky to have a special visitor - Grandad Jim, who kindly came in to help with the construction. With his guidance, the Nursery children enthusiastically collected wood, bamboo tubes, sticks, and other natural materials to make the perfect home for bugs of all kinds.
The children were hands-on throughout the process, and many were brave enough to try out the very loud drill and the big hammer (with close supervision, of course!). It was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about teamwork, tool use, and caring for nature.
Thank you, Grandad Jim, for your time, your tools, and your terrific help!
We can’t wait to see which creatures come to visit the Bug Hotel!
Weather
The forecast is looking good again next week. Please make sure you apply sun cream to your child before they come to school. Please also ensure that all children have a sun hat and water bottle.
Lost Property
Please check the lost property boxes by next Friday - 20.6.2025. Anything left in there after then will be cleared and recycled, if possible.
Safe and considerate parking
Parking is an issue on some of the residential streets around our school. We have always worked hard to maintain good relations with our neighbours, and therefore we would like to remind all parents to be extremely careful and considerate when parking cars at both ends of the school day.
We have been contacted by local residents informing us that some members of our Brunswick Park school community are parking where they should not be, especially on the service road, Gardeners Close, Tarragon Court and Nurserymans Road.
Please do not park cars across any driveways, thus preventing any households from going about their business.
Parking is also obviously not permitted on any zig zags, double yellow lines or on the roundabout, as it is vital that emergency vehicles can access school at any time of the day.
Finally, can we remind all parents to please drive slowly and carefully near school, as there will be many children crossing at busy times of the day. Thank you for your continued co-operation.
RSE
RSE lessons will take place this half term in line with our curriculum. Please contact your child's teacher or Tracy (Pastoral Lead) if you have any questions.
We will be using the Christopher Winter Project scheme and resources which are approved by the PSHE Association and you can view the materials on our website.
The Five Pound Challenge
Brunswick Park Children are doing 'The Five Pound Challenge!'
Our Mission: Empowering our children to discover, develop and celebrate their mathematical entrepreneurial skills and potential.
We want every child to have the opportunity to learn the vital skills in financial literacy and give them the chance to earn and look after their money.
The Big Idea: With just a £5 initial investment classes must create, market, organise and financially manage their own business with the intention of making a profit.
Date: Class Stalls will be out on Thursday 10th of July (after school). Please have change at the ready!
The class with the greatest profit will win a non-school uniform day filled with fun as well as special certificates awarded to each child in that class.
Reading Corner
Barnet’s brand-new summer read.
This year, Barnet libraries are introducing ‘Barnet Book Detectives’.
This is a great way to keep children reading over the summer holidays.
. . . . Something strange is happening around Barnet. Books are disappearing and a mysterious Book Crook is on the loose. They love to read, but want all the books for themselves and will not share!
This summer, Barnet Libraries are inviting children in Barnet to join the ‘Barnet Book Detectives’ and help Detective Woof pick up the scent.
Participants will emBARK on a reading journey, helping the Barnet Book Detectives chase the Book Crook, who has been leaving clues at libraries and locations around Barnet.
By reading six books over the summer holidays, children will help the Book Detectives identify the culprit and solve the mystery. They will receive a certificate and other rewards and will be entered into a very special prize draw when they finish.
Children can read any books they like – from chapter books, comics or even information books.
They can also read eBooks or comics on the Libby app or listen to eAudiobooks on BorrowBox.
Children aged 4 – 11 with a library card can sign up at any Barnet library from Saturday 5th July and throughout the summer holidays. Library membership is free and easy to sign up for!
Here are this month’s recommendations from BooksforTopics.
Detailed book reviews are on their website.

Why not try to find these books in a local Barnet Library or local bookshop!
Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
“Would you rather” questions are a fun and engaging way to encourage critical thinking and imagination. This week’s questions for discussion are . . .
Would you rather have the chance to design a new toy or direct a movie?
Would you rather be able to control the weather or have the ability to talk to animals?
