Brunswick Park boys have played in a number of football games over this term: taking part in leagues, cups and friendly tournaments. It has been wonderful seeing so many children already represent the school this year and show their talents. Each of the teams have displayed excellent sporting values, teamwork and determination. Some of the highlights are below.
League
In an extremely competitive league, the team has so far recorded one league victory two narrow defeats. After a 7- 0 win over Monkfrith, Brunswick Park then lost 4-3 defeat in a extremely competitive game against Queenswell. This was followed by a exhilarating 6-4 defeat to Osidge in muddy conditions last week. With 1 fixture still left to play they are hoping for a top two finish.
Whole of Barnet Cup
A magnificent victory against rivals Queenswell in an end to end encounter. The boys put in a determined and resilient performance to win 8-4 and progress through to the next round.
East Barnet Cup
A convincing win against Tudor saw Brunswick through to the quarter finals where we await out next opponents.
Oak Hill Cup
A fantastic afternoon saw more Brunswick students have the chance to represent the school in an exciting game. The yearly contest between Brunswick and Danegrove ended in a wonderful 3-2 victory, with Lukas slotting in a cross to win the game. We are hoping to arrange some more fixtures for these children in the next few terms.
The buzz around girls football continues this year at Brunswick Park. Our year 5 and 6 girls have been involved in a range of competitions experiencing the highs and lows of competitive game. They have had the chance to play in a range of positions and demonstrate all their team skills. A summary of the events so far are below:
League
An unbeaten start to the league season so far. Brunswick begun winning convincingly against Osidge before edging a 2-1 victory over St Johns. This was followed up with a 1-1 draw against the Danegrove (The champions for the last two years) meaning a victory over Church Hill could give Brunswick Park a chance at winning their mini league.
East Barnet Cup
Penalty heart break in the East Barnet cup. The girls went head to head with Akiva completing a 1-1 draw before losing out on penalties. It is always difficult to lose on penalties, but it was a great experience for the girls none the less.
Whole of Barnet cup
A fantastic experience in some difficult rainy conditions. The girls battled away and put in a brilliant team performance to edge a 3-2 victory. This was the first experience for some of the team and they all made us extremely proud.
Some of our boys competed in a 6-aside tournament organised by Chelsea FC. After a competitive group stage, the team battled through to finish second and qualify for knockout stages of the cup.
A tight quarter final followed against Danegrove. Brunswick Park edged ahead with a great goal from Josai before the game was levelled late on, sending it to penalties. A dramatic penalty shootout followed with Luke saving two penalties to send Brunswick Park into the semi finals with great celebrations.
In the semi finals they were edged out by Queenswell 1-0, but it was a fantastic effort from our team and the Bronze medal was well deserved. Coach Alfie stated after the event, 'The team fought until the very end and didn't give up. Brunswick Park should be really proud of them.'
Brunswick Park's Netball team have also started playing games with two victories in their league so far. A convincing win against All Saints was followed up with a 9 - 1 win over Ashmole. The children have really loved playing in the matches so far and shown great team spirit to support each other as they play in competitive games for the first time. Lots more opportunities for netball will be coming up in the new year and we will look to give different competitive experiences to a number of other children in netball club in the next two terms.
Our Y3/4 students attended a dodgeball festival at Copthall Leisure Centre. There was brilliant teamwork, tactics, throwing and dodging skills shown by all. The team faced a number of other schools and represented the school brilliantly.
The main focus of the day was to demonstrate fair play, honesty and integrity during the games. We could not have been prouder of how the Brunswick children displayed these skills and managed the games. Well done everyone!
Children in both Year 2 and year 3 have been a part of a range of sport festivals.
Gymnastics and Movement Festival
A range of year 3 students took on a number of different challenges based around dance and gymnastics. This included developing sequences, using apparatus , focusing on balance and learning a small dance routine led by secondary school leaders.
Multi Sport Festival
Some Year 2 children were selected to experience a range of different inclusive sporting activities. There was a huge variety of different sports on offer and the children demonstrated a brilliant attitude to try new things and explore different activities. Some of the games included skills based around golf, cricket, rowing and futsal.
Let me introduce you to our Brunswick park sports leaders in year 6. Over the last few weeks they have started their roles to increase physical activity and support sports participation in the school. They have begun a number of projects this term including.

The team will be looking to consolidate some of these projects in the new year and are interested in developing more opportunities over the spring term.
