Honourable delegates, esteemed chairs, student officers, faculty advisors, and distinguished guests, 

My name is Anthony J. Lim, and I am a junior at Gyeonggi Suwon International School. It is my greatest privilege and honor to welcome you to the fifth rendition of SWMUN as Secretary-General. We have had diverse attempts at creating international dialogue throughout our history. In all successful times, nations have worked together in the past: the eradication of smallpox, the Paris Agreement. Now, more than ever, we must stand together. We are now at the forefront of complex transnational crises, from inflation to geopolitical insecurity. 

To see a better tomorrow, nations must come together to discuss and navigate these enormous challenges. SWMUN V, provides delegates the opportunity to explore this idea with our theme, “Shaping Stability in an Unstable World.”  Delegates will take on the role of member nations to conduct diplomatic discussion. You will leverage each other’s strengths to enhance solutions in ways that can’t be done alone. The United Nations was created to foster cooperation n against issues that endanger international peace and security. 

The UN is a crucial bridge for nations to coordinate peacemaking efforts, disaster relief efforts, and avoid future conflict. In SWMUN V, you will simulate the UN conference protocol, collaborate with varied perspectives to write agendas, and engage in constructive dialogue to amend them. Thank you all for your support in making this conference possible, and we hope to see you at SWMUN V.
