Three Canadian Communities: 2.1.2.1

Students will label and match on a map their own community and our 3 Canadian communities being studied. This includes a picture of the community, the type of community and the community name.

What do the Communities Look Like? 2.1.2.1, 2.1.2.2, 2.1.2.3

Students will use Google maps with street view and photosphere imagery to gather images of the Canadian communities

Mapping Grade 2

Create a map of the Communities. 2.1.2.1

Students will use Google MyMaps to locate and label their community, an Acadian, a Prairie, and a northern community.

Communities Infographic

How are the geographic regions different from where we live?  2.1.2.2 & 2.1.4.1 

Students will create a simple infographic that shows the geography, resources and activities available in their Canadian Communities.

Daily Life in a Community: 2.1.2.7

Your class will list and compare elements of daily life in two communities. 

Students can also do a journal entry describing their day in the community. This could be a video reflection as well with School Video Recorder for Google Drive, a screencast or voice typing.

My Great Canadian Trip: 2.1.2.1, 2.1.2.4, 2.1.2.7,  2.S.4

Students will pack their bags with the appropriate clothing for the climate of a Canadian Community. They can also write a postcard as a summarizing activity. Creating  can add another element of realism to their trip, as could searching for directions in Maps to determine how they would travel to their community.

Flags and Coat of Arms 2.1.3.1

Students will create a coat of arms and/or flags by exploring cultural characteristics of the community. Google drawing template includes pre-created special symbols that students can use.

What kinds of natural resources exist in the communities? 2.1.4.1

Students will design a comic type page for each of the 3 studied Canadian communities that include natural resources, jobs and what you might see.
