Thank you for wanting to become a Grand Staircase Escalante Partners Honoring the Land Trail Ambassador! Your time volunteering as a Trail Ambassador will help promote continued stewardship, instill thoughtful education, and deepen the visitor’s connection to the landscape, all while basking in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s beauty.
This page offers an overview of the Trail Ambassador Portal and where to find all of the resources you will need to volunteer.
Here you’ll find everything you need to support your work as a Trail Ambassador. This page includes our four online training videos, each paired with a short questionnaire designed to check your understanding and capture your areas of interest as an Ambassador.
Resources
You can also access the Trail Ambassador Handbook, a go-to guide offering quick refreshers, detailed information on the Honoring the Land ethic and Leave No Trace principles, and helpful reminders for those unexpected moments on the trail. Additional resources—such as the Backcountry Volunteer Safety Plan and information on the Ten Essentials—are available here as well.
After each day in the field, please complete an End of Day Report. This form helps us better understand your experience and measure the impact Trail Ambassadors have on visitors. Think of it as your field journal! 😁
In your report, you’ll record visitor contacts and how they went, litter collected (by weight), observations of damage, vandalism, social trails, and trash, completed visitor surveys, and overall trail conditions.
Whether you’re exploring a new site or returning to a familiar one, be sure to check out our comprehensive collection of area maps and guides. These resources cover every Trail Ambassador volunteer location and are an excellent tool to support your field preparedness—whether it’s your first patrol or your hundredth.
The GSEP staff is always here to support you—ready to listen, lend a hand, and answer any questions you have. You’ll find our contact information on the final tab of this website.
If you’d like your own contact information listed on the Ambassador Contact Page for fellow volunteers to reach out—whether to coordinate a patrol or ask a question—just let us know, and we’ll add you to the roster!
