Advancement Via Individual Determination
What is AVID?
AVID at Chandler High is a 4-year program consisting of both a 9th-12th college-prep elective class and a school wide set of research-based instructional practices to improve success for all students.
AVID students are capable of completing college-prep curriculum and have a strong desire to attend college. The AVID curriculum is designed to help students fulfill their potential; academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities help keep each student on track.
Students apply to be accepted for the program and, if selected, choose AVID for one of their elective classes for all four years of high school.
AVID students conduct Socratic tutorials each week, engage in rigorous AVID curriculum (includes: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading), and participate in both college visits and team building.
