10th Grade English

Welcome to tenth grade English!

I'm Mrs. Whitehurst and I am pleased to make your acquaintance. Though this is my first year at Griffin High School (go bears) it is my sixth year of teaching high school English. I graduated Magna cum Laude from Clayton State University with a degree in English. I obtained my secondary teaching certificate through CSU as well, and every day since has been a challenging and wonderful adventure! Literature is the truest passion I know, and being able to share it with my students is a great joy.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my crazy family, and my cute (but monstrous) cats, Toby, Pancho, and Porter. I also love interior decorating, reading, drinking hot tea, traveling, and wandering around the wilderness.

Parents and students, please join my Remind notification group to receive important reminders about assignments, assessments, deadlines, projects, etc!

Make sure that you pay attention in class, bring materials with you to class daily, take materials home with you daily, and ask questions in class!

If you need me, EMAIL ME, though I cannot guarantee a response outside of school hours.

The best way to ensure that you DON'T need me outside of class is to keep an agenda of assignments, pay attention to instructions, and ask questions before leaving!

This is going to a be fun semester full of learning about literature! Please check this website regularly for updates and announcements as well as digital copies of materials students receive in class.

The best way to contact me is via email at: lauren.whitehurst@gscs.org and I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.

This semester, students will sharpen a variety of skills including: critical thinking, analysis, writing, reading, verbal and written expression, public speaking, and so much more! My class is an interactive environment where students will utilize technology and communication with each other and me. We will use different materials and bountiful techniques--this is not a "sit and get" kind of class. Students must be active and excited about their own learning.

I'm looking forward to working with each and every one of you! Please feel free to reach out to me via email with any questions or concerns!
