As part of our district’s continued partnership with Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education), I will be providing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) during the 2026–2027 school year to support select students impacted by trauma.
TF-CBT is an evidence-based, short-term therapeutic intervention designed to help children and adolescents overcome the emotional and behavioral effects of trauma. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions in a structured, supportive format.
Duration: Typically 12–16, once per week sessions throughout the school year
Format: Delivered individually at school, during non-instructional periods
Parental involvement: Sessions include caregiver participation where possible
Outcomes: Reduced symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behaviors
TF-CBT is best suited for students ages 5–17 who have experienced one or more of the following:
Abuse (physical, sexual, or emotional)
Exposure to domestic violence
Grief and loss
Traumatic separation from caregivers
Community or school violence
Involvement with child welfare or foster care systems
