Solar flares, also called solar storms, are big explosions on the surface of the sun that happen when magnetic energy builds up in the sun's atmosphere and is suddenly released. Particles from the explosion can span across the solar system. They emit a lot of radiation that is unpredictable because it travels at the speed of light, so once you see the solar flare the radiation has already reached you. The energy released by a solar flare is 10 million times stronger than that of a volcanic eruption, but only around 10% of the energy released by the sun. The radiation released by a solar flare can pose a threat to astronauts and satellites that aren’t in the protection of Earth’s magnetic field.

This is Christa Mcauliffe, a victim of the challenger mission accident. The challenger mission was a space mission in 1986 that ended in tragedy. The mission, hosted 7 participants, including Christa Mcauliffe, who was a teacher picked to conduct experiments to teach about in space. The cause of the accident was a malfunction in the spaceships O-rings that started a fire in the rocket that caused it to explode, killing everyone inside. Engineers had doubts about the functionality of the rocket but it was launched because they didn't want to delay it any further (they had delayed it many times before).

Apollo 1, the first mission of the United States Apollo Program with a crew set to launch on February 21, 1967. Until January 27, 1967, when there were problems during a launch rehearsal test, killing the crew members, Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger B Chaffee. It was determined that it was an electrical fire that spread rapidly due to there being a lot of combustible materials and a pure oxygen atmosphere in the cabin. Scientists later determined that the crew died from asphyxia due to inhaling toxic gasses. All three crew members were found with 3rd-degree burns on their bodies
