Palio di siena is a horse race held twice each year on 2nd July and 16th august in siena,italy,it involves 10 costumed horses and bare back riders representing 100 of the 17 contradas(district, or a ward, within an Italian city. ). Only mix breed horses are allowed and the race is usually no more than 90 seconds,the riders are allowed their whips not only on their own horses but on other horses as well for distracting or disturbing them. The winner is the horse who represents its contrada-a riderless horse can win. The winner is rewarded a banner of painted silk.
