HONORING JANET
We were all devastated by the loss of Janet Barnstable this year....
Here are some examples of Janet's original words taken from her old e-mails:
- to Zeynep TÜZÜN ( leader teacher from Turkey) - 2017
When we donated our golden award prize to Vietnamese students who were in need:
"Dear teachers,
As a 1st (gold), 2nd (silver), or 3rd (bronze) GVC winner, a year’s
scholarship for a student in Vietnam is awarded in your school’s
name. The children are all extremely needy, mostly girls, and would
have no means of even a partial education without this help. For some
of them their uniform, including shoes, is the only decent clothing
they have. All three of our primary gold award winners have donated
their monetary prize back for additional scholarships. They will
sponsor four students each!"
"Dream the happy dreams of one who has certainly given back to the world to make things better for those in need."
"During the years in which I taught students, that was one of my grandest goals: to make them aware of what others needed. I believe community service and good works are essential to the development of a whole person. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to get to know you."
"Money is such a thing that can be earned easily here but for some people ıt's impossible. I believe in God and his fairness for people, I 'm sure that those children will do great at school. This is just a little help for them. The world will survive with the help of good hearts."
Following her husband, Richard, and Janet's passing, we wanted to be sure the world knew of her work, so I contacted a local Chicago news station reporter. Below is the CBS News broadcast honoring Janet's efforts to develop global connection and promote friendships between teachers and their students around the world.
Devastation, pain, bereavement!
It’s difficult to speak about Janet in the Past time!
She is here, with us! She is in our hearts.
I have been working with Janet for a long time! Thanks her patience, kindness and love I’ve learned how to work with children in the projects, how to find something interesting in simple things. She was kind, respectful and attentive to people not because of her task or her job. Her soul was like her beautiful orchid – beautiful and inspirational.
December 2017, I was going to Kazakhstan to meet with Kazakhstani teachers. Our region borders on this country. We were going to share pedagocal experience and to speak about GVC projects.I asked Janet to prepare the audio for Kazakhstani teachers as an invitation. Now the audio sounds for all teachers!
Wonderful orchid
Olga,
Sharing our ‘two story’ orchid with you for Women’s day.
:-) A second spike grew out of the bottom orchid and produced an entirely new plant.
Janet
Delighted to be able to help spread the word!
Janet
BTW, not at all unusual for you I’m sure, but we had our first snowfall. Usually very light, but this one was 6+inches (about 16 centimeters).
