Welcome to Band at Gateway Science Academy!

Instruments you can choose from for the school Band program:

• Flute

• Clarinet

• Saxophone (after one semester on clarinet)

• Trumpet

• Trombone

• Baritone

• Tuba

• Percussion (Drums, you will need a "COMBO KIT" not a drum set for beginning band) KIT MUST INCLUDE:

  • Set of bells

  • Drum pad

  • 1 set of drum sticks

  • 1 set of mallets

Instruments and books are not provided by the school. You can rent a quality instrument from local music stores. These stores will also carry the book you will need: "Essential Elements for Band" Book 1.

Please do not purchase cheap instruments off the internet, they often break and do not play in tune. It cause much stress and frustration for beginning students.

Examples of each instrument are below, and I encourage you to look at a few before making your decision. Feel free to reach out to the music stores and see if you can come in and try them out.

For my 7th & 8th grade families, WELCOME BACK!

As you know, you will need an instrument & book(s). We will start the year by finishing the book from our previous year. Meaning if you are going into 7th grade you will need both Book 1 & Book 2 listed on the left. If you are going into 8th grade you will need both Book 2 & "Foundations" listed on the left.
