Applications are available at the end of every quarter, the link on the homepage will be updated with the current application. The applications will be open for around 2 weeks.
In the application, we ask questions to assess the needs of applicants. We consider things like childcare and dependent costs, tuition costs, stipend level and access/eligibility to other basic needs resources. We assign point values to all of these questions. Those with the highest points are offered free produce. We can offer free produce to 40 people right now.
We also offer 50% off discounted produce to the next 160 students with high need. So if you indicate that you would like to be considered for this option, and you qualify based on need we are able to offer this as well.
Yes! If you volunteer for at least 1 hour shift, we provide any extra produce as a thank you for your time and help. This is dependent on how much produce is available (if we are running low on some things we will have to save those for participants).
If you are unable to pick up your box because you are sick, out of town, etc. We recommend finding someone (friend, relative, classmate etc) who can pick up your box for that week. Please make sure that they have your email and PID for the check in. If you can't find someone to pick up your box, you can cancel your pick up in your Local FoodMarketplace through FoodShed Cooperative.
We offer limited pick up Thursday evenings at the Graduate Student Lounge, and pick up on Saturday mornings at the OMS Food Pantry in Grad Housing.
Please reach out to basicneeds@ucsd.edu and FoodShed Cooperative explaining that you need to switch that week. Please do this at least two days in advance!
FoodShed Cooperative provides a wide range of seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, root vegetables and mushrooms. The full list of their harvests is available here: https://www.foodshedcooperative.com/
