Mr. E.G. Nimal, a dedicated employee of the Statistics and Information Division, retired on August 15, 2024, after a remarkable 39-year career.
He began his journey at the University of Peradeniya in April 1985, starting as a labourer in the Maintenance Division. Over the years, he demonstrated his commitment and skills, leading to his transfer to the General Services Division in 2002. In 2006, Mr. Nimal joined the Statistics & Information Division, where he contributed significantly for 18 years.
His dedication and hard work were duly recognized, with long service awards bestowed upon him in 2015 and 2020 to celebrate his 20 and 25 years of service, respectively. Mr. Nimal played a vital role in the achievements of the Statistics & Information Division, and his presence will be greatly missed.
A respected and honest colleague, Mr. Nimal is known for his capability and integrity. We extend our warmest wishes to him for a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement.
The University of Peradeniya took a significant step forward on April 9, 2024, as it presented the University Calendar 2023/24 to the Vice-Chancellor. The event, held at 8:30 AM in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, gathered esteemed members of the University’s leadership, including Professor MD Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Terrence Madhujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anoma Perera, Editor-in-Chief of the Editorial Board, Mr. E.M.G.M.B Ekananayake, Acting Registrar, Mr. A.M.N.B. Arampath, Bursar of the University, members of the Editorial Board and Ms. Kanchana Athapattu, the Statistical Officer of the University.
The University Calendar stands as a cornerstone document, encapsulating the rich tapestry of the university’s history, its structural framework, academic offerings, By-Laws, rules, and regulations, and alumni engagement initiatives. Noteworthy in this edition is the inclusion of a newly developed digitalized map, aimed at facilitating access to vital information.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor shed light on the meticulous preparation process that commenced in March 2022 underscoring the arduous tasks of data collation, updating, editing, and visualization undertaken by the Editorial Board. Professor Anoma Perera, serving as the Editor-in-Chief, extended gratitude to all members of the Editorial Board for their unwavering dedication and commendable efforts that culminated in the successful creation of the Calendar.
In response to the presentation, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the Editorial Board for their commitment and professionalism, offering constructive feedback to further enhance the utility of the publication. He acknowledged the collective endeavor of all involved stakeholders and expressed profound appreciation for their indispensable contributions towards crafting this essential university resource.

University of Peradeniya Reaches APFASL Gold Award for the Second Time - 2020
University of Peradeniya received the Gold Award for the best Annual Report and Accounts 2020 in the University category. The public finance wing of the Institute of Charted Accountants(CA), Association of Public Finance Accountants of Sri Lanka (APFASL) presented the Gold Award at the Annual Conference and Best Annual Report Award Ceremony – 2022 at the BMICH on December 2nd 2022.
Mr. Priyantha Mayadunne, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs Provincial Council and Local Government, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Mr. Mahinda Siriwardana Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, President of CA, Mr V. Kanagasabathy President of APFASL, Dr. Asela Atapattu graced the occasion Representatives from 125 Public Institutions took part in the award ceremony.
University of Peradeniya won the Overall Gold Award - 2019
University of Peradeniya won the overall gold award for its annual report and accounts– 2019 at the Best Annual Report Award Ceremony organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA) in association with the Association of Public Finance Accountants of Sri Lanka (APFASL) held on December 29, 2021 at the BMICH, Colombo.
Hundreds of public entities including universities, provincial councils, research institutions and many other public sector organizations were the contenders. University of Peradeniya also bagged another gold award for its annual report and accounts – 2019 under the university category at the same event. Professor Terrence Madhujith representing the Vice-Chancellor and Ms. Kanchana Atapattu, Statistical Officer of the University received the awards on behalf of the university.
The APFASL, which is the public sector wing of the CA conducts the award competition with the prime objective of helping improve the quality of annual reports and accounts issued by the public sector organizations thereby enhancing transparency, accountability and good governance practices.
