History

Sarasavi Medura Hall was founded on March 12, 2017. After careful preparations, the hall was officially opened to students in September 2019. Prof. Muditha Karunarathna had the honor of being the first warden of the hall, while Ms. Renuka Gangodathenna served as the acting sub-warden, providing valuable support to the warden and the residents.

Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the hostel played a crucial role in supporting public health efforts. It was temporarily converted into a quarantine center, offering essential facilities and care for those affected by the virus, contributing significantly to the community's well-being

In December 2022, the hostel was able to resume its primary function as a place of accommodation for students. Once again, Sarasavi Medura Hall became a vibrant part of the university community, providing a conducive environment for students to engage in various activities and personal growth initiatives.

The resilience and adaptability shown by Sarasavi Medura Hall throughout these trying times demonstrate its commitment to serving its residents and fulfilling its role as an essential component of the University of Peradeniya.
