We Conserve Water
We are blessed with over 278 days of rain per year at Peradeniya. Thus none of the lawns at the campus are irrigated. Further, we have adopted a landscape design with minimum water usage. Only the flower beds are watered when needed, limiting our irrigation requirement to <18,000 L per year.
The Landscape division is responsible for designing and installation of new landscape and maintenance of existing landscape in the University campus according to landscape principles unique to University of Peradeniya. We have a work force of 80 well trained individuals including two curators and five supervisors. The campus is divided into four zones and each zone is maintained by four separate crews with the help of flower bed, hedge maintenance and tree surgery teams. Going beyond our main duty, we are contributing to the sustainability effort of the University of Peradeniya by getting involved in conservation and habitat management efforts, composting, vegetable farming, and natural floral arrangements.
Our goal at landscape division is to provide an inspirational environment for the academic work and to enhance the aesthetic value of the University to create everlasting memories in our visitors.
