The Health Center was established in 1952 in the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya during the tenure of Professor Ivor Jennings as the Vice-chancellor. Its primary objective was to provide health care for resident students and the University community. To cater to primary healthcare needs, the Health Center operates full-fledged laboratory services, 24-hour ambulance, and preventive healthcare services. It is situated in a picturesque setting on the Sangamitta Hall at the southern end of the University. Its staff comprising the Chief Medical Officer (Head of Department), four medical officers, and other support staff are dedicated to catering to the healthcare needs of the University community including the non-resident students and employees.
