STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA JOIN HANDS WITH THE KANDY MUNICIPAL COUNCIL TO CLEAN THE SACRED KANDY CITY

We are proud to announce that students from the University of Peradeniya representing the Geographical Society and Botanical Society participated in the Kandy City Cleaning Day program organized by the Municipal Council of Kandy which was held on 11th March 2023. The students showcased their commitment to social responsibility by lending a helping hand to the Kandy Municipal Council to clean the “Walakulu Bemma” and pedestrian path near the Dalada Veediya and Sangaraja Mawatha area next to the Kandy City Center (KCC).

The Urban Commissioner of Kandy Municipal Council (KMC), Mr. Ishan Wijethilaka, extended an invitation to the students to participate in the event, which was supported by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. MD. Lamawansa and Deputy-Vice Chancellor Prof. WM.Terrence Madujith. The Center for Environmental Sustainability (CES) and the Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation and Technology Transfer Office (BLII-TTO) of the University of Peradeniya coordinated the event.

The students of the University actively contributed towards maintaining the cleanliness of the city and took a step forward in promoting environmental sustainability. This event also served as a great opportunity for the students to interact with the local community and understand their civic responsibilities better. The CES awarded participation certificates to all students committed to this social responsibility.
