CARPE DIEM
I am Gaetano Currao or 黃捷楷 and this is my group.
Our research is mainly about high-speed experiments and simulations of experiments. We work hard to understand the secrets of nature and how energy from the fluid is transferred to structure causing divergence and flutter.
To join me you need to be passionated and thirsty for knowledge
Join us I am waiting for you :)
FIELDS OF RESEARCH
At NCKU we have a large transonic wind tunnel, a classic shock tunnel and a continuous heated suerpsonic wind tunnel. Students learn to use this equipment from year 1 of their Master!
There is no more disappointing experiement when flutter does not occurred as predicted. There is no more terryfying experience than when flutter occurs against predictions [Cit. E. Dowell]
Fluid and structure talk to each other. The fluid through pressure the structure through deformation. This relationship can be very non-linear and difficult to describe. This is in a nutshell the challenge and the beauty of aeroelasticity at high speeds.
At NCKU we have a large transonic wind tunnel, a classic shock tunnel and a continuous heated supersonic wind tunnel. Students learn to use this equipment from year 1 of their Master!
In 2025 the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics officially restarted hypersonic research after so much time of inactivity. I have organized this first event to kick start our efforts into establishing new hypersonic capabilities. NCKU will soon have hypersonic wind tunnels!
Very often when my students join my lab they do not have previous experience and have only basic knowledge in fluid-dynamics. They quickly learn to run simulations, perform experiments, present their scientific work in english every week, partecipate to conferences and write articles.
TEACHING SPECIALTIES
NCKU offers a compulsory undergraduate course in compressible flows. In this course the students learn everything from the concept of speed of sound to the theoretical design of nozzle, shock-expansion theory, and Prandtl corrections. The main reference book is Anderson's "Fundamentals of Aerodynamics"
This Master Course is my contribition to NCKU. I started teaching this course in 2024. I teach the historical problems of aeroelasticity, static aeroelasticity, dynamic aeroelastic characterization of a system and so on. It is a course created to bring up to pace every enginnering students regardless of the background. The main reference book is Dowell's "A modern Course in Aerelasticty", but I also provide material.
This is a Master Course on turbo engine with fundamentals of design. Great emphasis is given to each component of the engine, particularly the compressor. What parameters govern the efficiency of an engine? How to reduce pollution? Join my course to know the answers. The reference book is Saravanamuttoo's "Gas Turbine Theory".
