Updated Feb 2022

This particular standard is all about being able to read music. Not necessarily understanding what each note is, but understanding the language we use to interpret certain directions. Whilst playing by ear is a popular way in which a majority of players use, everyone knows there's nothing quite the same as being able to read music and understand some theory behind your playing.

  1. Conventions refer to:

  • terms, signs and performance markings

  • rhythm and metre

  • pitch

  • tonality and harmony

  • texture

  • instruments aka TIMBRE

  • form and structure

  • compositional devices.
