This year in Year 9 English, we are exploring the theme of The Importance of Identity. This is particularly apt as students navigate the transition from primary to secondary school.
We will explore a range of contexts and text types such as Joseph Campbell's Hero Cycle, through to short films, a novel, poetry, and creative prose.
Term 1, Week 4
Learning Intention:
to understand the first three stages of the hero cycle.
Success Criteria:
I am successful when I can explain what status quo is and how it links to the hero cycle.
I am successful what the call to adventure is and give my own example.
I am successful when I can explain what the assistance stage is and give my own example.
Term 1, Week 3
Learning Intention:
to understand the origins and sequence of Joseph Campbell's Hero Cycle.
Success Criteria:
I am successful when I can name at least four stages of the hero cycle.
I am successful when I can assign each stage to a moment from Moana.
I am successful when I can use a text or person of my choice to show the stages of the hero cycle.
Term 1, Week 2
Learning Intention:
to understand the requirements of a narrative story.
Success Criteria:
I am successful when I can explain the structure of a narrative.
I am successful when I can identify 4-5 different types of punctuation with the aim of using those in my own writing.
I am successful when I can plan and draft a narrative piece of writing.
