Welcome to Chemistry at GMC! As you know by now, my name is Miss Teel. This school year will be my 11th year teaching and my 9th year at GMC. Time flies when you are having fun and I sure have enjoyed the years at GMC. I joined when we were still in portables and have been able to experience the transition into a building and also a gym!
Below: This is "The Deck" and portables that used to be our school!
I have a bachelor's degree in Science Education and a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences. I have also completed chemical safety courses from Flinn Scientific which I regularly update and always retain active CPR/First Aid training. In my years at GMC, I have been awarded an ACS High School Teaching award by the Western Carolina's ACS chapter, obtained my amateur radio license, and most recently have been awarded a 10 Under 10 award from BJU.
I love to watch classic movies as well as new ones. Laura is my all time favorite. Captain America is my favorite superhero. Honestly, no one else compares. I enjoy soundtrack music and guessing the film as well as the composer. John Williams is my favorite and John Powell is a close second. Check out clips of their songs below! My favorite Disney remake is Cinderella and Jungle Cruise is absolutely delightful (said with Emily Blunt's accent). The Chosen, Poirot, Columbo, and Murder, She Wrote are staples at my place!
In my spare time, I love to travel on my own and with Medical Missions Outreach (MMO) and try new cuisines. I have been to China (non-MMO), Canada (non-MMO), Honduras, Tanzania, and Kenya. I am able to run the lab for these medical trips and learn new skills from nurses, doctors, and surgeons. These trips are so meaningful as they allow us to help those who cannot afford to see a doctor in their country or to preform a surgery that a country's system would have a 2+ year waiting list for. People who cannot afford glasses are given them for free. As someone who is blind without her glasses- this means the world to me! We are able to help these people and show them the true Healer through it. If I could travel with them as a permanent job- I would!

I was a short-term exchange student in China for about 3 weeks in 2008 and again in 2009.

This is going to be a great year, but that doesn't mean it will be free of challenges! We don't start something and get immediate results. There are often roadblocks we have to slow down and go around, detours, turnarounds, and much more. Many of you are sophomores and juniors. This year is going to have bumps and detours. Life after high school also has challenges. You can do this! Even when it is hard- that's ok! Slow down, take a deep breath, and press on. The your parents/guardians are here for you, GMC teachers are here for you, I am here for you-- and we will be your biggest cheerleaders.
