Problem of the Day
Mrs. Leibowitz woke up at 3:30 am Eastern Time Zone (Connecticut). She is just now falling asleep at 10:20 pm Mountain Time Zone (Arizona).
How many hours has she been awake today?
Remember - Arizona is two hours behind Connecticut.
Ms. Stargardter woke up an hour later than Mrs. Leibowitz and fell asleep around the same time.
How many hours has she been awake?
Problem of the Day
Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Star are presenting at the Black Canyon Conference Center tomorrow.
There are 450 participants at the conference and 11 rooms. If there are about equal amount of participants in each breakout session room, about how many people will Ms. Star and Mrs. Leibowitz present to tomorrow?
What if there are 100 people in the Black Canyon Ballroom and and equal amount of participants in the other 10 rooms. How many participants would be in the Desert Sky room?
Problem of the Day
Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Star were wondering if you could help them identify this type of cactus. We saw it while at eating dinner at a restaurant last night.
Search on Kid Rex for desert vegetation to identify this cactus. Tell us a little bit about this cactus in your Bright Side Journal.
Thanks for your help!
Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Star needed to rent a car in San Diego. They could either pre-pay for a tank of gas at the price of $45 as a one time charge, or put gas in the tank on their own at the rate of $3.49 a gallon. If their car takes roughly 12 gallons of gas, what is the better deal? Should the pre-pay or fuel the car themselves?
Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Stargardter budgeted $15 per meal for the first full day they are in San Diego, California. If they plan to have 3 meals, how much money should they put aside for food altogether?
In reality, they did not spend $15 per meal. Calculate how much they spent altogether based on the information below.
Breakfast
Mrs. Leibowitz - $5.50
Ms. Stargardter - $6.69
Lunch
Mrs. Leibowitz - $14.99
Ms. Stargardter $13.75
Dinner
Mrs. Leibowitz - $23.78
Ms. Stargardter - $27.06
Did they stay in their budget or go over?
What is the difference?

Use Google Maps to calculate the exact milage.
Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Stargardter heard this crazy story at lunch! In Georgia, there is something called the "gnat line". If you go past it, there will be a crazy amount of gnats!
Read about the Gnat Line by clicking on the picture to the left.
Can you tell Mrs. Leibowitz and Ms. Star which parts of Georgia to avoid?
They don't want to run into the gnats!
