Hello, my name is Zorayda Torcatt-Blanco and I have been teaching in Greenville County School since 2002. I come from a beautiful country in South America, Venezuela. I have a bachelors degree on Modern Languages from Universidad de Carabobo and a Masters Degree on Education from Anderson University. I am teaching ESOL at Wade Hampton High.
I am an active volunteer at The Peace Center for the Arts in Downtown Greenville. I also like to read (a lot), cook my home country dishes as well as other dishes; and on my summer break I love to travel to visit my family in Spain or have my mom come stay with me during the summer.
I enjoy teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) because I believe it is important for those students that for so many different reasons end up in our classrooms, learn to communicate and understand English so they can become independent, productive and successful individuals. I want to make their learning English experience the best it can be and prepare them to live, work and function with a strong competence in the English Language.
I was an ESOL students when I came to study High School here in the States (some years ago), in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to be exact; and I know first hand what is to be an ESL student (that is what it used to be called back then - English as a Second Language) so the ESL and ESOL program have come a long way and we keep on making it better every year for your children.
I am happy to be part of the Wade Hampton High School Family.
