Introduction

Welcome! I'm Mr. Woolsey, and I'm excited to be back at Fountain Inn High School for my third year teaching English IV. Before coming to FIHS, I taught 7th grade English at Lakeview Middle School, and before becoming a teacher, I worked as a technical writer and content strategist for companies like Google and Facebook.

That career change shaped the way I teach. My goal isn't just to help students analyze literature: it's to help them become better thinkers, communicators, and problem-solvers. Whether my students are headed to college, the military, a trade, or straight into the workforce, I want them to leave my class with skills they'll actually use.

About Me

I'm originally from Santa Barbara, California, and earned my English degree from San José State University before eventually making my way to the Upstate. Greenville has become home, and I love being part of the Fountain Inn community.

When I'm not teaching, you'll usually find me reading, playing video games, traveling, watching movies, or adding to my comic book collection. I'm especially drawn to stories with supernatural or psychological elements; the kinds of stories that make you think long after you've finished them. I also sponsor Fountain Inn High School's eSports Club, where students can build teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership while sharing a hobby they enjoy.

At home, life is kept interesting by my pets: Atticus, my black lab, and catahoula, Scott. 

I believe English is about far more than grammar and essays. It's about learning how to think critically, communicate clearly, evaluate ideas, and understand people with different perspectives. My classroom is built on discussion, curiosity, and the belief that every student is capable of meaningful growth. If students leave my class as stronger readers, writers, and thinkers, and a little more confident in themselves, then I've done my job.
