What is THE STAR ACADEMY?

CONGRATULATIONS you have the opportunity to be promoted to High School 2023

STAR Academy is also known as Falcons Soaring Ahead (FSA) is a year-long academic acceleration program for rising 7th graders who have the opportunity to be promoted to High School after their spring semester. Students will be in 7^th grade classes first semester and be promoted to 8^th grade classes second semester. The program allows students the opportunity to be promoted to High School upon successful completion.

Criteria:

· Candidates must have grades that are a C (70%) or better.

· Candidates must have satisfactory attendance.

· Candidates must have been retained at least one grade level prior to 6^th grade.

· Special Education and ML status is taken into account, but is not an excluding factor.

· Candidates must complete all required coursework and expectations in order to be promoted to 9^th grade.

How it is done:

STAR also known as Falcons Soaring Ahead (FSA) delivers two years of curriculum in one year. In addition, it promotes individual student responsibility for learning and behavior. This is attained through:

· Data informed intervention and additional tutoring is offered

· Targeted, individualized instruction

· A student profile is generated with an assigned learning path

· Computer-based activities

· Cooperative learning in pairs and small groups

· Accommodations for differential learning styles

What STAR/FSA looks like:

• I will be visiting 2 of the four core classes of the STAR students. I will be observing their participation, motivation and behavior while in their core classes.

• Students will participate in STAR/FSA with me during one of their Related Arts periods for each semester if their schedule allows.

• Students will have me as a support teacher to assist and support them through the entire process.

Program Overview:

· The STAR/Falcons Soaring Ahead Program will focus on rising 7th graders who have been retained, recommended and approved.

· Students who are successful will be promoted to 9th grade at the end of their 7/8th grade year.

Promotion Evaluation:

· Students will be evaluated after SEMESTER 1 to determine if they will move to 8^th grade.

· Students will be evaluated after SEMESTER 2 to determine if they will be promoted to 9^th grade.
