There will also be peer tutoring opportunities through Spanish Club. Feel free to reach out to me for more information.
If you would like to hire a tutor, check out Sra. Hunter's Help Desk. Corey has 15 years of teaching experience and used to teach Spanish at Mann.
Online dictionary: WordReference (use of Google Translate is not permitted)
Extra practice:
I usually post practice activities for each new grammar topic under "Extra Practice" on my website. Most of these activities come from StudySpanish.com and Colby.edu, both of which I highly recommend.
Duolingo: This is a free app that approaches language learning like a game. It is both fun and effective! I recommend Duolingo especially for students who feel the need to brush up on the basics.
Babbel: Students have recommended this site as a useful tool to review basic grammar & vocabulary.
Grades:
I update the gradebook in PowerSchool every few days. This is a great way to keep up with your child’s progress as well as see if he/she has any missing assignments.
Major grades (tests & projects): 60%
Minor grades (quizzes, short writing assignments, etc.): 30%
Homework grades (homework, classwork): 10%
Extra credit: The World Language Department generally does not offer extra credit assignments. Students are responsible for keeping up with their work throughout the term.
JL Mann Late Work Policy:
Updated policy due to absences: A student with an excused absence may make up assignments and assessments given on the day(s) they were absent.
If the student was absent for one day, they have one day to submit assignments completed or due the day they were absent.
If the student was absent for multiple days, they have up to five days to submit assignments completed or due during their absence.
Teachers may opt to lengthen make-up time for unusual circumstances.
See below for the policy on missed work NOT due to an absence:
