ACT 94, Section 59-18-325 of the Education Accountability Act mandates that all eleventh-grade students (third year in high school after their initial enrollment in ninth grade) are offered the opportunity to take a college entrance exam selected by the South Carolina Department of Education. In the twelfth grade, and as aligned to the student's Individual Graduation Plan, if funds are available, the State shall provide all students the opportunity to take or retake a college readiness assessment, the career readiness assessment, and/or earn industry credentials or certifications at no cost to the students.
The SAT School Day is planned for March 12-13, 2024.
Recent Communication from October 16, 2023:
Dear Parent/Guardian of 11th/12th grade students,
Preparing students who are College-Ready is an important responsibility of Greenville County Schools and the State of South Carolina. We want to ensure that all students have the skills necessary to pursue future education or begin a career after high school.
Your 11th or 12th grader has the opportunity to take either the ACT or the SAT. These tests are provided at no cost to you and are administered during the school day in Spring 2024. We will communicate your student’s specific testing date and other important information at a later time.
The ACT and the SAT are college entrance exams used by some colleges and universities in the admissions process. You may explore the links below for more information on the ACT or the SAT to help determine the best test for your child. Should you have any questions about the tests, please contact your school counselor.

Please use the following link (click link) to sign up your student for the ACT or SAT assessment by November 3, 2023.
Please note:
11th grade students are REQUIRED to make a selection (ACT, SAT, no test).
12th grade students who do not respond will not be registered for either test.
Students in the GCS Virtual Program are responsible for providing transportation to and from the school on test day. Parents of students with IEPs or 504 Accommodations Plans will be contacted by your child’s case manager to discuss the student choice selection if the choice does not match prior plan documentation. If your student is served via an Individual Language Acquisition Plan and may require testing supports, please work with your school to apply for supports.
