LANGUAGE & LITERACY:
Literacy is a very important part of a child's development. Reading on a daily basis is a wonderful way to help enhance your child's beginning literacy skills as you share fun, quality time together!
Some ways to enhance your child's literacy skills at home:
Playing I SPY: Ask your child if they can find different letters and/or simple sight words around the house, in books, while driving in the car, etc.
Sing: Nursery Rhymes & Alphabet Songs
Play Alphabet Bingo or Sound Bingo using pictures (When your child has learned their letters/sounds you may challenge them with simple beginning "popcorn or sight words")
Write letters or your child 's name on index cards & play "make a match" game for beginning letter & name recognition.
Mathematics:
Math is all around us! Counting as you set the table for dinner, measure while baking cookies or matching socks while doing the laundry are just simple & great ways to strengthen your child's math skills.
When enhancing mathematic skills at home, some fun ideas include:
Counting Songs
Puzzles: while playing children learn about shapes, space & fine motor development
Playing Number Bingo, Candyland, etc.
SMALL & LARGE MUSCLE CONTROL (GROSS/FINE MOTOR):
Both Small & large muscle control, "motor development" is very important at this age. There are many opportunities we offer throughout the day for folks to strengthen such skills. For example: riding bikes, playing team games, & climbing on the playground.
