MAJOR ASSESSMENT RETAKE POLICY
At Northwood Middle School, we believe learning is a process and that students should have meaningful opportunities to demonstrate mastery of grade level standards. Students are encouraged to prepare for and perform their best on the original assessment through active participation in class, completion of practice and minor assignments, and engagement in teacher-provided learning opportunities.
NEW: When a student has not reached their desired level of mastery a Take Two, or second opportunity, will be provided for each major assessment.
Expectations
● Take Two opportunities are available only for major assessments.
● Students who are absent for a major assessment will complete the assessment in accordance with the Northwood Middle School Make-Up Work Policy and are not considered to have used their Take Two opportunity.
● Teachers maintain professional discretion regarding the format of the reassessment while ensuring it measures the same learning standards as the original assessment. Our goal is to hold students to high expectations while providing intentional opportunities for learning, reflection, and growth. The Take Two process is designed to reinforce that mastery is the expectation, and that perseverance and effort are valued as students continue to develop their understanding.
Students and parents may request a retake, redo, or revision of an eligible major assessment.
To qualify, the student must:
● Submit the school’s Retake/Redo Request Form within five school days of the grade being posted.
● Have submitted all minor assignments associated with the instructional unit.
● Complete teacher-directed remediation or relearning before reassessment.
● Coordinate the reassessment with the teacher during an agreed-upon intervention time. TAKE TWO STUDENT-INITIATED REQUEST FORM Common Expectations

MagicSchool AI Tools for Students
This year, students will have access to MagicSchool AI, a generative AI platform built for schools that will help them learn to use the technology safely and responsibly.
With tools like ChatGPT and others being used in the professional world, it’s important that students learn how to use the technology safely. By using MagicSchool in our classes, your student will be prepared for the future of technology in the workforce.
While students use MagicSchool tools for purposes such as receiving real time feedback, getting their questions answered, generating images, and in other exciting ways, I will have access to their chats to ensure that it’s used appropriately. Rest assured, MagicSchool does not collect or train on student data.
Be sure to ask your child about how they’re using AI in the classroom and take a look at the engaging ways they’ve utilized the MagicSchool tools to enhance their learning!
