Please direct any dismissal information or timely questions to Mrs. Barnette after April 9th at lbarnett@greenville.k12.sc.us or to Mrs. Waters at pwaters@greenville.k12.sc.us.

Book: Where Is My Hat? (Read together and initial each night.) We are sending home a green hardback reader that you and your child can read and then return each day. There are different types of stories in the book. The Get Set Story are stories with a list of words you can go over with your child before reading. These stories should be ones your child can read after practice - have your child use the picture clues, and making the sounds in the word, and what makes sense. There are also Read Together stories and science links to your child.

Science/Social Studies: Maps; continuing author study of Dr. Seuss

If you know someone that lives in another state or outside of the U.S., please see if they will send us a postcard, letter, or package and we will put them on our map! Some things we would love: something about the shape of your state and what makes it easy to find it on the map; what’s the weather like where you live; a picture or postcard of something well-known in your city or state (peaches, Hollywood, Grand Canyon, beach, etc.); a short letter telling about a few places or things from your state or country; a package - maybe with seashells, taffy or candy made in your area, other items that might tell about where you are from. Thank you for helping us learn about our great country!

IMPORTANT CAR LINE INFO!!!

Last week's carline went pretty well for the first week of school. K4 students had half days last week and they were not here at the end of the day for carline. We will add them into the carline this afternoon, so it may take longer that it did on Thursday and Friday of last week.

Here are some reminders for the carline. Please read through them carefully! Our number one priority is getting your child to you safely!

- Car pick up numbers must be displayed in the window by hanging them from the rear view mirror or posting them up high on the driver’s side window. (A two clip pants hanger works great!) Please use the large car numbers that you receive from the office. The car number should be displayed until all of your children are in your car. Staff members and safety patrols need to see the number to assist students into the correct car.

- Students can only enter their cars via the right (passenger) side of the car. Students must learn to buckle their own car seats and/or safety belts. Staff members and safety patrols cannot help a child buckle into his/her seat. Parents may not get out of their cars to assist children with buckling.

- Please stop your car close to the car in front of you when in the pick up portion of the line. Once your children have loaded into your car, remain parked or in a non-moving position until all the cars are loaded. Cars cannot be moving at all while children are loading. .

- Once all the cars are loaded, a staff member will signal the cars to begin moving. Please do not pull away until you are directed to move. If your child misses his/her number, you may be directed to pull up to the front of the line while the remainder of the cars exit. Your child will come out with the next set of numbers and you will need to wait until the next group of cars are dismissed before leaving.

- Students will only be released to those who have a pick up number displayed in their car. If you come through the car line without a number, you will be asked to go to the front of the school and park, walk into the office, and show ID to the office assistants to pick up your child. Even if the teachers on duty have your student in their class, we cannot release ANY students without a posted dismissal number. There will be no exceptions to the policy! Please understand that this is for your child’s safety.

- Please be aware that the school day ends at 2:30. Do not arrive later to avoid traffic! Car dismissal ends when the existing line ends or at 2:45 pm. Any students left at that time will be taken to the front of the school and parents will need to come into the school to pick them up.

- For the safety of our students and staff, all Mountain View carlines are cell phone free zones! Please do not use your phone to text or make phone calls while in the carline!

- Older siblings and carpool riders must sit silently during car dismissal and abide by the same rules as the Kindergarten students. Older students who cause disruptions will be given a written warning. If problems persist after the written warning, siblings will be asked to sit with their own grade level during car line and parents will need to use both carlines.

- Please be patient! At the beginning of the year while the students are learning their numbers and the carline procedures, dismissal will take longer. The process will speed up as students become more familiar with the procedures and their numbers. Practice letting your child listen for his/her car number often!
