This standards-based eighth grade course places strong emphasis on applications of the mathematical concepts and skills related to rational numbers to solving a variety of real-world problems. In addition, students will extend their understanding of the concepts proportion and measurement in problem-solving situations. Students will further develop their algebraic thinking by investigating graphical, symbolic, tabular, and verbal representations of relationships. This is a grade level course that will both enrich and remediate as necessary. Some students placed in Math 8 are more advanced than others and require acceleration. Others are still mastering basic skills and need more assistance.
Instruction will be based on the Greenville County Schools curriculum guide and the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics. These standards can be accessed here: SC Math 8 Standards

Semester 1 average = (Q1 X .5) + (Q2 X .5)
Semester 2 average = (Q3 X .5) + (Q4 X .5)
Final Grade = (S1 X .5) + (S2 X .5)
All 8th grade math classes will have common graded assignments that will me modeled exactly like what students will see on their unit tests
Late Work Procedures
After an assignments due date, 5 points will be deducted every day the assignment is late
Redo/Retake/Revision Procedures
Students may request to retake any major assessment.
Students enrolled in a high school credit course may retake a major assessment only when the original assessment score is below 60% (failing).
A student and/or parents have five (5) school days to submit a completed Retake/Redo Request Form. Students must complete the retake/redo process within five (5) school days of form being returned. Prior to retaking an assessment, students must:
Complete and turn in any uncompleted assignment that was assigned during the unit.
Students must complete teacher-directed remediation or relearning activities.
The teacher and student will coordinate the reassessment during an agreed-upon intervention time (e.g., before school, SAIL, lunch, or after school).
An alternate assessment or revised learning task may be used to demonstrate mastery.
The final assessment grade will be the highest score earned on the assessment.
Students may retake an assessment only one time.
