Hello! My name is Summer Rawson. I'm almost a South Carolina native. I moved to Greenville from Georgia when I was 2. I was lucky enough to grow up in Greenville County Schools. I went to Alexander Elementary, Duncan Chapel Elementary, Lakeview Middle, and Berea High. I graduated from Berea with highest honors in 1998. Go Bulldogs!
I attended Coker College, in Hartsville, SC and received my degree in elementary education in 2002. After I graduated, I taught 5th grade at Welcome Elementary under the leadership of my former 5th grade teacher. In 2003, I was hired here at Slater-Marietta Elementary. It is one of the best things that has happened to me! I'm highly qualified to teach elementary school and love continuing my education with masters level classes and workshops.
Here at Slater-Marietta, I taught 5th grade for 10 years. I loved teaching 5th graders! I then went on to teach computer lab, science lab, and math intervention for four years. Now that I'm back in a regular classroom, I love it! This will be my eighth year teaching 4th grade.
My husband and I live in a nice little house over by Furman University. We have a mischievous cat named Maxine. In my free time I love to do arts and crafts (make wreaths, paint, draw), take care of my many plants, read historical fiction (usually), bake sweet treats, and listen to true crime and storytelling podcasts. I have a younger sister, Katie. She and her husband Brian live in Philadelphia. She is the director of the Annenberg Library at Pennsylvania University. My parents live nearby and we get together for dinner and game night often.
This is my 23rd year at Slater-Marietta Elementary. I love this community and am proud to serve it!
