What is Resource?
Resource is a special education program for students who have met state and school district eligibility criteria for special education services. The IEP team meets and determines that the student needs special education services to be able to access the general curriculum with classroom accommodations. At Sara Collins, resource services can consist of supplemental instruction in the resource classroom, inclusion and/or indirect/consultation services. Resource students spend the majority of their school day in the regular classroom with accommodations. Please check your child's teacher's website for curriculum information.
How often are IEP meetings held?
The following are some of the most common reasons for IEP meetings:
1) Initial IEP - when students are being placed into special education services for the first time
2) Annual Review - at least once every year to review student progress and develop an IEP.
3) Special Review - may be held at any time a member of the IEP team feels that the student's IEP should be reviewed with amendments
4) 3-Year Reevaluation Review - at least once every three years students' IEPs are reviewed, and the need for updated information is evaluated by the team.
*Parents can request an IEP meeting with the special education case manager for their child at any time*
How is my student doing in Resource?
Parents will receive quarterly reports every 9 weeks updating the goals on their student's IEP.
Parents are also welcome to call their child's teacher or myself and request a conference or IEP meeting as needed.
