More information is always coming! Any time I receive e-mails or communications from the middle schools, I will update this page :)
One of the fun things I will get to do with our 5th graders this year is help them select their classes for middle school. Middle schools are assigned by address and can be changed by:
-Requesting special permission from the district. Once a student is approved for special permission, their "next school indicator" will change in our system and I will be able to register them for classes there.
-Applying to a magnet program: Hughes Academy, League Academy, etc.
What kind of courses will my child be taking?
Recommended by teacher:
English (English 6 or English GT)
Math (Math 6 or Math 6A)
Mass assigned:
Science
Social Studies
P.E.
Elective Courses
Students choose which elective courses to take. They may choose either 1 year-long course and 1 semester course or 3 semester courses. The registrations forms sent home with your child specify which courses are semester courses and which are year-long.
Rising 6th Grade Parent Information Night – Thursday, February 4
Riverside Middle will host a Rising 6th Grade Parent Information Night on Thursday, February 4. Since students will have the opportunity to tour the building earlier that week, we are asking that only parents/guardians attend the information night so that we can accommodate everyone comfortably.
Thank you for helping us share these opportunities with your families. We are excited to welcome our future 6th graders and their families to Riverside Middle and look forward to partnering with you throughout this transition.
Blue Ridge Middle and Greer Middle: Our school will take an in-person tour to visit these schools as a school field trip. Greer Middle students will visit with the counselor, and all students will visit Blue Ridge Middle with their teachers in the spring.
*Tentative dates for Greer Middle are Feb. 8th/9th. Stay tuned for more information.
