What Do School Counselors Do?
School counselors work to support the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. We achieve this by:
Supporting students’ academic growth, setting collabortive goals, and helping all students to meet graduation requirements.
Helping students to explore career interests, identifying strengths and skills, connecting academic choices to future goals, and developing individualized plans for college, career, and workforce readiness.
Teaching and reinforcing social-emotional skills, providing individual and group support, and promoting resilience and self-awareness.
Providing crisis intervention and connecting students with community resources to support their well-being.
We believe that all students are our students.
Our School Counseling Mission
The mission of the Southside High School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, data-informed, and equitable school counseling program that ensures all students have access to the academic, career, and social/emotional support, resources, and opportunities needed to achieve their fullest potential. Through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership, school counselors at Southside High School promote student success by addressing barriers to achievement and fostering an inclusive environment where every student is valued and empowered.
Our School Counseling Vision
All Southside High School students will graduate with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and character necessary to pursue their postsecondary goals and thrive in a diverse, global society. Through equitable access to opportunities and support, students will become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, effective communicators, and responsible citizens who are prepared to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives in Greenville County and beyond.
