Hello! Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Sarah Duerk (pronounced "Dirk") and I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year. It's going to be a great year full of new friends, new adventures and lots of learning. This is my 20th year teaching kindergarten and my 10th year as a part of the EWE family. My husband Scott and I have three girls, Avery (19), Anna Catherine (16) and Barrett (15) who keep us very busy outside of school! My oldest attends Clemson University (Go Tigers!!) and my two other daughters attend Woodmont High School. I am thankful that all 3 were able to attend Ellen Woodside with me!
My wonderful teaching assistant and "right hand man" is Mrs. Alicia Olson. She has been a part of the Ellen Woodside family for many years. She has three kids that all attended EWE, she has served on our PTA, and subbed in the district for many years. This is her sixth year as an "official" paraprofessional in kindergarten, but she feels right at home! We make a great team!
I consider it a special privilege to be able to teach kindergarten. It is important for me to help create a fun and positive first school year experience. I would like to work closely together with you and believe that frequent communication is vital. I will be sending weekly newsletters and emails outlining what we will be working on in school.
If you ever need anything, please feel free to contact me at 355-4928 or shduerk@greenville.k12.sc.us. I'll be sure to return phone calls and emails as soon as possible.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and I know it will be a fun filled year! :)
Mrs. Duerk
