Circulation Policies for Students:
Students may checkout books during their weekly class visit and by using a pass from their teacher. Books are due in two weeks, but may be renewed.
Students should return books on time. Even though we do not charge for overdue books, they must be returned before new ones can be checked out. Students may return books any time during the day with their teacher's permission or before and after school. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to checkout books, too!
Media Center Fees:
If a student damages or lose a book, he/she must pay for it before checking out more books. The money should be paid to the media center staff, who will receipt it and turn it into the office. If a student does not pay for a lost or damaged library book, that fee will stay on his/her record as long as he/she is in the Greenville County school district.
Communication:
The media center website will be updated with information about upcoming events and programs. The website will also give information about current units of study and share student work and photographs.
Classroom Management Plan:
The media center expectations are consistent with all other areas of Lake Forest Elementary. The media center staff expect that students will respect themselves (enter quietly, soft voices, walking feet), respect others (raise hand, listen politely, hands to self), and respect property (responsible and considerate user and borrower). These rules were reviewed and practiced the first two weeks of school and are enforced fairly and consistently. Students who do not meet behavior expectations may be asked to move to another area of the media center or may lose media center privileges, such as moving to a different center and/or checking out books. The media center staff make every effort to use positive reinforcement to encourage positive student behavior. Rewards may include bookmarks, stickers, praise, Pride Points for individuals and for classes, and positive comments to teachers.
