Types of Assignments
Minor assignments (50% of grade)* - Minor assessments are designed to monitor student understanding throughout the learning process and provide timely feedback to guide instruction. These assessments occur more frequently and may include, quizzes, exit tickets, teacher observations, Google Forms, rubrics, checklists, group tasks, and other formative measures.
Major assignments (50% of grade)* - Major assessments are designed to measure a student's deep understanding and application of grade-level standards and therefore carry greater weight in the overall grade. These assessments occur less frequently and often represent the culmination of a unit of study. Examples include projects, performances, portfolios, and unit tests.

Work Missed Due to Student Absence (MDA)
Student work missed because of an absence should be completed within five (5) days after the student's return to school unless alternative arrangements have been made with the teacher.
The student is responsible for communicating with each teacher to obtain missed assignments.
All assignments missed due to an absence will be recorded in the gradebook as MDA (Missing Due to Absence), which is calculated as a zero and entered by the teacher within 1 school day to allow for timely communication with students and parents.
Once the assignment is submitted and graded, the MDA code will be replaced with the earned grade. If alternative arrangements have not been made with the teacher, a grade of zero will remain as the grade for the missing work.
Late Work (NHI)
Assigned work that is not handed in by the due date will be recorded in the gradebook as an NHI (Not Handed In). An NHI indicates that the assignment has not been submitted and calculates as a zero in the gradebook. An NHI will be entered by the teacher within 1 school day to allow for timely communication with students and parents.
Students may submit late assignments for full credit within five (5) school days of the original due date. Late major assessments are not eligible for Re-Takes.
Failure to complete all minor assignments for an instructional unit makes a student ineligible for Re-Takes on major assessments and may result in the loss of reward privileges and participation in specially planned grade-level events.

Students may request a retake for MAJOR assessments. To do this a student or parent/guardian must:
Complete a Retake Request Form (linked on their teacher’s Google Classroom) within five school days from the date the grade is entered into the gradebook to request a retake.
Students must complete teacher-directed remediation or relearning before reassessment.
Have all minor assignments turned in for that unit.
Coordinate with the teacher a time to complete the retake of the assessment.
A Few Important Notes about Retakes
Teachers may determine students should retake an assessment if they have not yet demonstrated mastery. In this case, students must complete teacher-directed remediation or relearning before completing a retake.
Only MAJOR assignments are eligible for retakes.
All retakes must be completed by the end of the grading period in which the original assessment was assigned.
An alternate assessment or revised learning task may be used to demonstrate mastery of the same standards measured by the original assessment.
Students may retake each major assessment one time.
The higher of the two scores will be recorded as the final grade for the assessment.
