Reading Programs

Reading Counts is a computerized reading achievement program that allows students to earn points on skills such as decoding words, reading strategies, literary elements, comprehension, and vocabulary. We have acquired the new Reading Counts! Enterprise web-based version, which will allow us access to 58,000+ Reading Counts! quizzes.

Students are able to take a Reading Counts! quiz on the computers in the Computer Lab, Library Media Center, or in their classrooms. When students pass a quiz, they earn points.

To help younger students who have difficulty reading or taking an RC! quiz, we have the Reading Counts! Helpers Club. These experienced students help others in the Library Media Center every school morning during breakfast arrival holding time.

Graphs showing how many quizzes students have passed are posted by grade and class in the library entrance hall. The graphs show how many quizzes are passed, but does not show how many points have been earned by the individual students.

The Book-It program from Pizza Hut works with Sue Cleveland Elementary to reward students for reading. Students can earn free pizza just by keeping a log of what the read! Check with your child's teacher for details.
