United States History is a survey course spanning the founding of America to the present day. This course provides a chronological overview of the following topics: Colonial America, American Revolution, the Constitution, Western Expansion, Antebellum Period, Civil War, Reconstruction, the rise of Industrial America, Immigration, Progressivism, Imperialism, WWI, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War, Post-War boom, Civil Rights, Vietnam, social issues of the 1960s and 70s, the Reagan administration, the war on terror and the current issues facing America today. In the study of U.S. History, students gain a historical perspective and a spatial awareness about our nation’s past in order to determine how events of previous events influence our own times. The course concentrates on understanding cause and effect relationships and developing an awareness of why things are the way they are. This will lead students beyond the mere memorization of names, dates, and facts to a deeper understanding of trends, movements, events, and a sense of how and why things happened in the course of our history. Remember, those who forget history are destined to repeat it.
