Parent/Teacher Communication
I check email at the beginning and end of each day, as well as during my planning time. If you have any last minute changes regarding end of day dismissal or need to quickly relay information to me, please call the front desk (355-1200) to guarantee we receive all urgent changes and/or messages. Folders will play a large part of communication between home and school. All important papers from the classroom, administration, and parent organizations will be placed at the front of the folder. Any daily notes from home, doctor offices, etc. should also be placed in the front pocket. The binders will be checked each morning in the classroom.

Classroom Rules and Expectations
In our classroom we will focus on positive discipline. My goal is to create an environment and experiences that allow all students to become respectful and responsible members of their communities (both school and home communities). I will use a combination of individual and whole class incentives. When necessary, logical consequences will be used to fix problems and help students get back on track. Logical consequences will help students acknowledge negative choices and identify ways to correct mistakes.
Instructional Goals
It is important to remember Kindergarten is a time to grow deep roots, to establish a strong foundation, and to encourage a love for learning. Our goal is to build lifelong learners and thinkers. We provide numerous learning opportunities that are age appropriate, engaging, and intellectually stimulating to lead students along their learning journey. These opportunities allow students to meet both state and district standards and expectations in language arts (reading and phonics), mathematics, content areas (science and social studies), physical development, personal/social development, the arts, and technology. We provide multi-level instruction and individual learning to meet the needs of all students. We provide large group, small group, and one on-one instruction. The Kindergarten classroom is a room full of learning and exploration. Differentiated instruction is an important part of the Kindergarten classroom and allows us to fast-track student learning and meet individual needs. This differentiated teaching occurs during small group and individual instruction. A variety of tools are used to assist with instruction – decodable readers, targeted phonemic awareness instruction, differentiated literacy and math centers, multi-level writing, and math groups. Many types of manipulatives are used to help meet every child’s learning style.
Students should read each night at home. Being read to is just as important as reading alone. Baggy Books will be sent home for children to use to strengthen reading skills. These books will grow and change alongside student readiness.
Grades
No letter or number grades are assigned to student work in Kindergarten. A parent/teacher conference will be scheduled to report on student progress during the first quarter. Additional conferences may be scheduled during the year if necessary. Repot cards will be issued to show student growth and mastery of standards. In order to show student progress, we will assess and evaluate students with a wide variety of tools. These tools include, but are not limited to, benchmarks, projects, checklists, journals, work samples, and rubrics.
Classroom Policies
a. Money
Money will be collected for various things – field trips, school lunch, etc. Payments can be collected in three ways – cash, check, or MySchoolBucks. Teachers will communicate when/if payments are needed.
b. Birthdays
Student birthdays are acknowledged on the morning news. Birthday treats are welcome for the classroom. Please coordinate a day to celebrate with the teacher.
c. Dismissal
Bus riders will be accompanied to buses. Walkers will be at the front gate and must be picked up with a car tag. Car riders will be taken to the gym and must also be picked up with a car tag. Please remember to contact the teacher and front office with dismissal changes. Dismissal begins at 2:15 pm.
d. E-Learning
In the event of inclement weather, e-learning will be implemented. Specific directions, expectations, and instructions will be provided directly by the school and the teacher.
