Classroom Resources: Historical Thinking Skills

Sixth-grade social studies students will study world civilizations to uncover trends from prehistory to the present day. We will examine civilizations through the lens of historical thinking. Throughout the year, students will develop six historical thinking skills: comparison, causation, periodization, contextualization, continuity and change, and the use of evidence. These skills serve as the foundation for historical study and will continue to be developed and applied in middle school and high school.
